Barcelona FC are facing a crisis: Here's why
Barcelona are currently the title holders of La Liga, after having won their 26th title in 2018-19. However, they are off to a shaky start to this season, as they 0-1 to Athletic Bilbao in their opening game. Further, they have been plagued by a number of injuries which might impact their campaign. On the same note, here is the list of injured players.
The Uruguayan star suffers calf injury
Without a doubt, Luis Suarez is one of Barca's key players. The Uruguayan suffered a calf injury during their opening game of the season against Bilbao, last weekend. Following a lengthy on-field treatment, he was taken off after 37 minutes of action. While players usually recover fast from calf injuries, Suarez has stated that it's 'impossible' for him to feature in the next game.
Hamstring injury for the French sensation
The latest blow to Barcelona comes in the form of French sensation, Ousmane Dembélé. He is currently nursing a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for a minimum of five weeks. The striker is an important part of Barca's gameplay. Notably, he scored 14 goals in 42 appearances for the side last season, as he is Ernesto Valverde's important asset.
A broken wrist plagues the Brazilian goal-keeper
Brazilian goal-keeper Neto, who signed for the club this summer from Valencia, too suffered an unfortunate fate and joined this list. He reportedly suffered a broken bone in his wrist during a training session, while he underwent surgery for the same last Tuesday. While he has been ruled out for two months, as Marc-André ter Stegen would handle the duties for now.
Argentine superstar is doubtful to feature in next match
The biggest setback came for the club was when their goal-machine Lionel Messi suffered a calf injury, like Suarez, during Argentina's international assignment. As a result, he was not risked for Barca's opener against Bilbao. Although he has reportedly resumed training this week, his participation in the tie against Betis is still a doubtful one, as per Barca insiders.
