The two sides have locked horns on 17 occasions with the Chennai Super Kings boasting the superior win record. The Kings XI have won just 7 matches as compared to CSK's 10 wins. Chennai's 2nd-highest total of 240/5 came against Kings XI in Mohali during the 2008 edition. Punjab's highest score at this ground is 221/3; they scored it against Rajasthan Royals in 2008.
Chennai Super Kings' injury woes
Suresh Raina, who strained his calf muscle, will not be a part of the Chennai Super Kings today. CSK have played 134 matches in the IPL and this will be the first time the yellow brigade will be without Raina's services. Moreover, Kedar Jadhav has also been ruled out of the entire season after suffering a hamstring injury.

100% record in alternate seasons
Interestingly, the two sides have a 100% record against each other in alternate seasons. In the 2012 season, Punjab beat CSK on both occasions while in 2013 Chennai beat KXIP in both the matches. In 2014, Punjab against beat Chennai thrice to reach the final while in 2015 CSK clean swept Punjab. It's 2018 now so will the KXIP go on to win tonight?
