KXIP vs MI: Match preview, TV listing and pitch report
Kings XI Punjab will fight it out against Mumbai Indians in match number nine of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season. Both the sides have two points each from the same number of matches this season. MI will look to carry on the momentum after a thrilling victory against RCB. KXIP need to put up an all-round show. Here's the detailed match preview.
Head-to-head records between the two teams
The two teams have met each other on 22 occasions. MI have a slight edge over KXIP with the tally reading 12-10 in their favor. At Mohali, they have played seven IPL matches. MI have a 4-3 advantage on this ground.
Gayle holds the focus as Rahul needs to get going
Chris Gayle has looked in good touch with the bat and Mayank Agarwal too has come good so far. These two will be looking to lay a strong foundation. David Miller's presence adds solidity and he hit the right note in the last match against KKR. The issue is with KL Rahul, who has scored just five in two matches. He needs to fire.
KXIP likely to change their XI
It remains to be seen which bowlers do KXIP pick. They are likely to get Mujeeb Ur Rahman back, as he could be instrumental against MI's middle-order. He picked 2/31 in his first match. Skipper R Ashwin will want to dictate the proceedings with the ball. Mohammed Shami and Andrew Tye add firepower. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy could be given another match as well.
Mumbai would want their batsmen to come good
Mumbai will be looking to go with the same starting XI that took the field against RCB. A lot will rely on a good start as Rohit Sharma holds the ace for MI. Yuvraj Singh is capable of slamming a quick-fire knock and he will be looking forward to face his old side. Hardik and Krunal Pandya come in as able finishers.
Sound bowling unit of MI to test KXIP batsmen
MI have a sound attack and there is plenty of experience in the middle. Jasprit Bumrah, in particular, was solid against RCB and his excellence at the death paid dividends. Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan promise experience and quality. Mayank Markande bowled well against RCB and will handle the spin show alongside Krunal. Hardik will be required to chip in with a couple.
