Kumble backs Kohli led India to shine in South Africa
What's the story
Anil Kumble might no longer be the coach of the Indian cricket team, but he was all praises for Virat Kohli and company and backed them to perform well against Proteas in South Africa.
Team India is set to kick off their lengthy tour of South Africa with the first Test from the 5th of January.
Here is what Kumble said.
Challenge accepted
Kohli and company ready for Proteas challenge?
After 3 long years, India will travel to South Africa to play 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
Having played on batsman-friendly conditions in the last few years, this will be the first major challenge for Kohli and company as the seam friendly conditions in the African nation will put their resolve to the test.
Rewrite history
India seek first Test series win in South Africa
India have never won a Test series in South Africa and they will be looking to set that record straight.
Kumble also believes his former colleagues will do well in Africa.
"I'm confident that the team which we have, will certainly go on to create history in South Africa and then beyond. That's the confidence I have," Kumble said about Kohli and his boys.
Quit or sacked?
Kumble's unceremonious exit
Kumble, who had a successful stint as the coach of the Indian cricket team, stepped down from his post after a reported rift with captain Virat Kohli.
Following his exit, Ravi Shastri took charge of the team. Under Kumble India won all their Test series, most of which were played on home soil.
Captain more important?
Kumble's controversial remark on coaches
Despite the reports of rift between him and Kohli, the former coach was full of praises for the Indian captain.
"I'm sure the team under Virat certainly has the capabilities to achieve that and continue all the good work they have been doing." Kumble concluded.
He also stressed that coaches in cricket "don't have too much to say or too much to do"
