Virat Kohli lists his priority with Team India: Details here
After exiting the ICC World Cup 2019 in the semi-finals, Virat Kohli-led Team India made a strong statement by handing West Indies a heavy 3-0 defeat in the T20Is. With the next World Cup being in 2023, Kohli said that he isn't thinking about it as his priority lies elsewhere. Here's what the Indian captain said about the same.
ODI series against Windies, Test Championship lies ahead
Kohli said that the 2023 World Cup that is scheduled to be played in India, is too far away at the moment. Therefore, he would like to focus elsewhere and keep Indian cricket at the top of the world. India are scheduled to play West Indies in three ODI matches next. After that they start their ICC Test Championship journey.
'I think it is too far to think about 2023'
"I think it is too far to think about 2023. You really start planning for the World Cup about 12 months before and not 4 years before. I think the priority is to keep Indian cricket on the top, play consistent cricket," said the skipper.
Pant comes alive with a whirlwind 65* in third T20I
Rishabh Pant was the focus in the three-match T20I series. The young wicket-keeper batsman failed to show much composure in the first two games. In the third T20I, Pant stood out and was the match-winner for India. He hit a whirlwind 65* and shared a key century-plus stand with skipper Kohli. The Indian captain praised Pant and backed him for the future.
We are looking at Pant as the future: Kohli
"We are looking at him (Rishabh Pant) as the future. He's got a lot of skill and lot of talent. It is about giving him some space and not putting too much of pressure. He's come a long way since he's started," said Kohli.
Kohli happy with Team India's T20Is show
Kohli was pleased to see Team India showing the efforts and coming good against the Windies. "Very clinical performance. We set out to get the results that we wanted and we've achieved that," said the 30-year-old Kohli. The first ODI between the two sides is set to be played on Thursday in Guyana. It's scheduled for a 7:00 PM IST start.
