Kohli unsure about playing Day and Night Tests
Indian captain Virat Kohli is unsure about playing a day and night Test against the West Indies later this year in the month of October. According to a report, Kohli has brought up the issue with coach Ravi Shastri. It will be followed by more discussions between Kohli and the CoA. The main concern of Indian skipper seems to be lack of preparation.
Kohli's doesn't want to rush into playing D/N Tests
The BCCI is keen on hosting a D/N Test to boost fans' interest in the 5-day format of the game. But the players and the team management do not want to rush into playing D/N Tests since they haven't tested Kookaburra pink ball yet. The CoA chief Rai had also raised the same concern that cricketers should be consulted before the schedule is fixed.
Kohli sceptical about multiple sessions under floodlights
According to the report, Shastri has given his consent in writing to BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary but Kohli is sceptical about how many sessions will be played under the lights. A regular day and night Test match has more than one session under the lights but Kohli and Co. are keen on playing just one session under floodlights.
Kohli doesn't want to play D/N Tests in Australia
Kohli and Shastri are concerned that if India host the day and night test against West Indies, Australia would also force them to play the pink-ball Test when they tour down under later this year. The bone of contention would be Australia's demand of playing than one session under the floodlights. Kohli doesn't want to take that risk without proper preparation.
Kohli wants to try out the pink ball first
"Initially, even Kohli wasn't sure about the long-term impact of playing day-night Test without having a proper trial of it. But now, both Kohli and Shastri are in agreement that India should not rush into day-night Test just as yet," a BCCI official said.
