This is what Kohli feels about the World Test Championship
Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is a great admirer of the longest format. He has always backed Test cricket advocated the same. The 31-year-old has stated the ongoing ICC World Test Championship above any other ICC tournaments. This is despite the ICC focusing more on white-ball cricket in the 2023-31 Future Tours Programmer (FTP). Here's more.
This is what the ICC has proposed for 2023-31 cycle
As per the proposed FTP cycle, besides the World T20 and the 50-over World Cups, the ICC wants to have T20 Champions Cup to be held in 2024 and 2028. There will also be an ODI Champions Cup in 2025 and 2029. Meanwhile, the T20 World Cups will be held in 2026 and 2030. There will be ODI World Cups in 2027 and 2031.
'I think World Test Championship should be right up there'
Kohli said the World Test Championship is the biggest ICC tournament of all. "I think World Test Championship as an ICC tournament should be right up there. All the other tournaments for me they start under that. This is probably the biggest of them all as every team wants to make it to the final at the Lord's. We are no different."
Kohli wants to win ICC World Test Championship
Kohli has set his sights on the World Test Championship and is eager to win the tournament. "We are in that zone. We want to make sure that we qualify as soon as we can and be in that frame of mind to hopefully win that (championship)," said Kohli in a press conference ahead of the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington.
Kohli feels Test Championship has made the format more exciting
Kohli feels the World Test Championship has made the longest format more exciting. "It has made Test cricket more exciting and that's something we have experienced as a side although we haven't had too many games away from home," said the Indian captain.
