This is what Shahid Afridi feels about Indian captain Kohli
Former Pakistani legend Shahid Afridi has gone on to reveal that Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli is one of his favorite cricketers. However, the former aggressive all-rounder felt that Kohli needs to improve his captaincy. The 30-year-old Kohli is currently leading the Indian team against Australia. Going by Afridi's comments on his captaincy, we analyze how Kohli has fared in 2018.
'Kohli needs to improve as a captain'
According to Times Now, Afridi said, "Kohli is one of my favorite players but he needs to improve as a captain. India-Australia series is going to be a very exciting contest and India have what it takes to win. But they need to play together,"
How have India fared in their overseas tours in 2018?
India are in Australia for their third overseas tour of the year. Against South Africa, they won the ODI and T20I series, but lost 1-2 in Tests. Against the Three Lions, the Indian side went on to lose the ODI and Test series after having won the T20Is. Now against the Aussies, Kohli's side have already lost the first T20I of the 3-match series.
Kohli has been superb as a batsman
Kohli, as a batsman, has been on top of his game in 2018. He is the leading run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs this year. For India, the skipper has also been the best player, in both ODIs and Tests, on foreign soil. But when it comes to captaincy, there have been some questions all along the way.
Kohli's captaincy issues were exposed in first T20I
In the first T20I against Australia in Brisbane, the Indian skipper was questioned for his move to send himself below KL Rahul. The move didn't go well as Rahul was dismissed for just 13. Earlier in the match, he was also guilty of not allowing Jasprit Bumrah to bowl to Chris Lynn. Lynn had struggled against JB in IPL 2018.
Kohli has often been found wanting with his team selection
Kohli has often been found wanting with his team selection both against South Africa as well as in England. He got the call wrong on numerous occasions, which in turn proved costly. Be it backing the out of form Rahul, or tinkering with the bowling in the Tests. India cannot afford the same in Australia and Kohli needs to be smart.
