Brian Lara prefers Sachin Tendulkar over Virat Kohli: Here's why
West Indian legend Brian Lara has praised Virat Kohli as being the best modern-day batsman in the world. Lara also added that Kohli is a run-machine and he is way ahead than the rest of the batsmen. But despite all this, the left-handed batsman said Sachin Tendulkar is his all-time favorite. Here is what Lara said about the comparison between the two.
Kohli a real deal in modern day cricket
Virat Kohli has been extraordinary in modern day cricket and is considered to be the best batsman. He has made it a habit of scoring runs at will and delivering consistent performance. Interestingly, Kohli is on a spree of breaking Tendulkar's records, especially in ODIs. And many regard him as the GOAT in ODIs. Lara has a different choice though.
Lara feels there is huge gap between Kohli and others
"He [Kohli] is a run-machine. But sorry to say Sachin Tendulkar is my [favourite]. But getting back to your question, no doubt there is a huge gap between Virat Kohli and the rest of the world in all forms of the game," said Lara.
Tendulkar changed cricket for good
Tendulkar dominated the batting show in both Tests and ODIs for a long time. The record run-scorer across both the formats left a big mark in cricket. Tendulkar was India's backbone for years and showed his prowess away from home. Lara feels Sachin has inspired today's Indian batsmen, especially when the team plays on foreign pitches.
Lara credits Sachin for India's batting success today
Lara feels Tendulkar's ability to bat everywhere shaped up today's thinking. "The impression Sachin left on the game is just unbelievable, because he sort of bridged that period. He was good on every surface and all of the Indian batsman are good on every single surface today, I think simply because they took a page out of his book," said Lara.
Tendulkar conquered the cricket field like nobody else
Tendulkar has always been considered as the greatest ever batsman the world has ever seen. Both Tendulkar's talent and his ability to score runs were extraordinary. Tendulkar dominated both Tests and ODIs and is still the highest run-scorer in international cricket. Even if Kohli breaks all records held by Tendulkar, the latter would always have a special place in the history of the game.
