Cricket legend Brian Lara has likened Indian captain Virat Kohli to football great Cristiano Ronaldo. Lara feels the 31-year-old Kohli's commitment towards the game is equivalent to Juventus star Ronaldo. The West Indian superstar is in awe of how Kohli has honed his skills to take batting to an "unbelievable level". Here is what Lara had to say.
Virat Kohli is the cricketing equivalent of Cristiano Ronaldo: Lara
Lara feels Kohli's commitment to prepare himself stands out. "I think it has got a lot to do with Virat's outstanding commitment besides his preparation. I don't think he is any more talented than a KL Rahul or a Rohit Sharma but his commitment to prepare himself properly stands out. He is, for me, the cricketing equivalent of Cristiano Ronaldo," Lara told PTI.
Similarities between Kohli and Ronaldo
Kohli has kept his fitness levels high and is a sheer workaholic. He keeps posting gym photos and has also turned into a vegan. Kohli works hard and is electrifying on the field. Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been an example for budding footballers to keep the fitness standards high. Ronaldo, who is the greatest alongside Lionel Messi, deserves a shout for his commitment and vision.
'Kohli's a guy you cannot leave out in any era'
Kohli is averaging 50-plus across formats and he has been dominating the game. "His batting skills are unbelievable. He is a guy you cannot leave out in any era. If a guy is averaging 50 plus in all versions of the game, then that is something which is unheard of," the legend said. "His fitness level and his mental strength is unbelievable," he added.
