Indian skipper Virat Kohli to receive Polly Umrigar award
Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli is set to be felicitated with the Polly Umrigar award for his outstanding achievements in the last two seasons. Besides Kohli, Indian eves skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana will be awarded as well for being the best women's cricketer in 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively. The BCCI awards 2018 will be held in Bengaluru on June 12.
BCCI adds categories to honour former president Dalmiya
CoA chairman Vinod Rai lauded the winners and stated that both men's and women's team have been playing really well and it's a proud feeling. Meanwhile, four awards have been rechristened in the remembrance of the Late Jagmohan Dalmiya. The U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy highest run-scorer and wicket-taker will be presented with the award, besides best Junior and Senior women's cricketers.
Kohli has been in a different dimension
Virat Kohli had two fabulous seasons both as an individual and as a skipper. In 2016, the classy batsman scored a whopping 1,215 Test runs and 739 in ODI cricket. In 2017, he scored 1000+ runs once again in Tests, but the magical moments came in ODIs, where he amassed 1,460 runs. During 2017 season, Kohli went past 9,000 career ODI runs.
Harmanpreet, Mandhana surge ahead
The duo had an excellent 2017 Women's World Cup where they helped the team reach the final. Smriti started the World Cup with scores of 90 and 106*. And Harmanpreet carried on the work with a record-breaking 171* in the semis against six-time champions Australia. Meanwhile, both players were the first ones from India to play in the Women's Big Bash League (BBL).
