IND vs WI: This is what Kohli feels about Rayudu
Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli has backed the experienced and versatile Ambati Rayudu to solve India's middle order conundrum. Rayudu is expected to come in at number four position in the upcoming matches and Kohli feels he is the perfect man to fix the problem. India have tried many names over time at this position, but it didn't work out well.
Rayudu the man backed for crucial number 4 position
India need a solid talent at this key position with the ICC World Cup 2019 around 7 months away. And the team has identified Rayudu to be that person to provide the cushion. Rayudu batted at number 3 in the Asia Cup 2018 and also opened in a match. He has been in good touch with the bat and that brings in some comfort.
'Many players couldn't capitalize on the chances'
Kohli lamented that despite trying out several faces, none could cement a place in the manner, the management wanted. "The only position we were trying to figure out was number four for a long time. We tried many players who unfortunately could not capitalize or cement their places in a way we wanted," Kohli said on Saturday.
Kohli wants Rayudu to get enough time
Kohli wants Rayudu to get enough games before the World Cup. "With Rayudu coming in and playing well in the Asia Cup, it's about giving him enough game time till the World Cup so that the particular slot will be sorted for us," he added. Rayudu now needs to build on the trust, which the management has shown in him.
Rayudu will be keen to cement his place
India open their campaign against West Indies in Guwahati in the 5-match ODI series starting tomorrow. Rayudu will be keen to continue with the form he showed in Dubai, last month. With West Indies being a relatively weaker side, the focus will be to get some consistency in the middle order. He needs to take it game by game and go about things slowly.
