ICC Test rankings: Virat Kohli regains the number one spot
Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli is back to the summit of the ICC Test rankings. The 29-year-old had slammed 97 and 103 in the third Test against England at Nottingham. This saw him surpass Steve Smith to be on top of the batsmen rankings. Kohli, who had earlier reached the top spot, lost the same after a total of 40 runs at Lord's.
Kohli has 937 rating points
Kohli has 937 rating points which is a new career-best for the Indian batsman. Earlier, post his heroics at Edgbaston, Kohli had reached the top spot with 934 points. This time he has seen a further three-point rise. Kohli had started the Test series against England with 903 points. He had achieved the number 1 ranking for the first time in 67 Tests.
Kohli eyeing to get into all-time points list
Sir Donald Bradman (961 points) and Smith (947 points) are two players that have amassed the best tally ever. Kohli can get closer now and is a point away from entering the top ten in all-time points list. Smith ruled the Test charts for a period of 32 months. He is currently serving a 12-month ban for his involvement in a ball-tampering incident.
Kohli leads Smith by 8 points
Smith has 929 points and Kohli has a 8-point advantage over the Australian international. Kohli now has two more Tests to play against England and could increase the gap further besides also getting into the top 10 all-time points list.
