Is Kohli a good captain of the ODI team?
Virat Kohli was handed the captaincy for the shorter formats of the game after MS Dhoni decided to step down in January this year. Since then, India have played a couple of ODI and T20 series against England and West Indies; Kohli also led India in the Champions Trophy. Let us have a look how Kohli has performed as an ODI captain till now.
India win 2-1against England in ODI series
Kohli's first mission as a limited overs captain was the ODI and T20 series against England. India won both the series 2-1; Kohli was able to replicate his success as the Test captain in limited overs as well. Not only that, he also performed well with the bat scoring 185 runs in three ODIs, including one century and one half-century.

Kohli failed to created his magic as a captain in Champions Trophy. His captaincy was just about average but India played well as a team. In the finals, his decision to bowl first, poor selection of bowlers and overconfidence in India's ability to chase led to Pakistan crushing India. The defeat made it clear that Kohli still needs to sharpen his captaincy skills.
Lack of experimentation in Kohli's captaincy
While Kohli has managed to win two ODI series as a captain, his captaincy has not been at par with his predecessor. He has failed to utilize young talent and his strategy has largely revolved around senior members. His captaincy has been predictable both in terms of field placement as well as bowling changes, which is definitely not a sign of a great captain.
Over use of Ashwin and Jadeja
This year, both Ashwin and Jadeja have not been at their best in ODIs. However instead of replacing them with Kedar Jadhav or Kuldeep Yadav, Kohli has continued using them without generating any results. Ashwin's selection in playing XI against Pakistan still remains a mystery.
