Workload has started to take its toll: Virat Kohli
There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is key to India's success across all three formats. However, the BCCI opted to rest the Indian skipper for the ongoing Nidahas Trophy, which seems a correct decision given what Kohli had to say about his workload. For the first time yesterday, Kohli admitted that his workload has started to take a toll on his body.
Workload has started to disagree with me
"Physically, I had a few niggles, I am just getting over those. The workload has started to disagree with me a little bit. I have to be very careful about how I go forward with my body, my mind, my cricket." Virat Kohli said.
Kohli hardly got a break since 2016
Kohli, who was recently awarded the A+ contract by the BCCI, has hardly had any time off cricket since 2016. Since 2016, he has played 25 Tests, 42 ODIs and 27 T20Is while also representing his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He has managed to stay injury free but excess of cricket could cause harm to his body.
India have a hectic schedule in 2018
BCCI made the right decision to rest senior players for the Nidahas trophy and opted to blood some youngsters. India have a tiring schedule in 2018. After 2 months of the IPL, India will play a Test against Afghanistan before England tour, where they will play Ireland and England. India will then play a series at home against West Indies before heading to Australia.
Kohli left in awe of Roger Federer
Kohli, who is a huge fan of Roger Federer, admired his ability to be at the pinnacle of the sport at this age. Kohli believes the time Federer has taken off tennis has helped him recuperate and keep himself fit. Federer has been wise in choosing his tournament. He had opted out of the French Open last year.
Kohli takes inspiration from ace player Federer
"He has a family, priorities set, he takes time out without worrying about opinions and criticism of people and then he comes in and wins Grand Slams. At 36, he is defying all logic and that's something I totally love," Kohli concluded.
