FIFA World Cup: Maradona offers to coach Argentina for free
Argentina's greatest ever Diego Maradona has gone on to state that he is willing to coach the national team. Not just that. He is willing to do it for free. The 1986 World Cup winner had offered this post Argentina's round of 16 exit at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018. Here is more on the same.
Argentina consider sacking Sampaoli
Argentina FA is considering to get rid of Jorge Sampaoli and that could cost them a sum of £17 million. The Lionel Messi-led side had a disastrous Qualifiers campaign. Further, they were not convincing enough in Russia. Talks circulated that there was unrest in the dressing room as well. Sampaoli looked a sorry figure throughout their campaign and is likely to face the cull.
Maradona offers his support
Maradona stated that seeing the Argentine team being beaten by France was one of the hardest things. He added that everything that they had built is getting destroyed easily and therefore he could lend a helping hand. He would not demand anything in return. The legendary footballer was left hurt by Argentina's loss and stated that this was unacceptable.
A look at Argentina's campaign in Russia
Argentina started their campaign with a 1-1 drab draw against Iceland. They were then thrashed 0-3 by Croatia and needed a win to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the next round. A 2-1 win against Nigeria helped them get to the round of 16. But a 4-3 loss against France ended their campaign. Talisman Messi just managed one goal in four games.
Sampaoli has struggled with his job
Sampaoli has 46.67 win percentage with Argentina, so far. It includes seven wins, four draws and four losses in 15 matches. The 2015 Copa America winner, with Chile, has a four-year contract which he signed with Argentina on June 1, 2017. He was expected to steady Argentine ship, but never managed to reach great heights.
