"Nothing to moan about": Klopp sums up Liverpool's unbeaten run
Liverpool are playing some of the best football modern English football has ever seen, and their stats clearly state the advantage they have over other title contenders before going into 2019. However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to play it cool, as he did during his press conference after his team thrashed Arsenal 5-1. Klopp believes there is nothing much to be excited about.
Klopp says journalists will immediately question him on dropping points
Klopp told the media that he could not be excited because there are important upcoming fixtures. He explained that though they're nine points clear now, media would raise questions about their nerve if they were to lose a match in the near future. Klopp added that it should not be a matter of excitement to be ahead by nine points in December.
Liverpool are in a great position right now
Going 20 games without a single defeat, comparisons have been made between Klopp's Liverpool and Arsene Wenger's 'Invincible' Arsenal, who won the 2003-04 league without a single defeat. Liverpool have been great defensively, allowing just eight goals so far this season, and their goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also managed 12 clean sheets. Forward Mohamed Salah is currently the joint-highest scorer in the league, with 13 goals.
Tottenham result did not bring any reaction from us: Klopp
Klopp talked about the fact that his team already knew they would go nine points ahead in the league if they won against Arsenal, as everyone was talking about Spurs' loss to Wolves ahead of the Liverpool-Arsenal clash. However, Klopp said that there is such discipline in his squad that nobody even smiled or talked about it as they were only focusing on their match.
Klopp speaks his mind after the match
Klopp said that though it was great to win 5-1 against Arsenal, he was still not happy with his team's performance on one or two occasions. However, he admitted that the performance was impressive because of the fighting spirit his side showed. Klopp also praised Salah's act of giving the penalty to Firmino to complete his hat-trick. Liverpool came back from 0-1 to win 5-1.
