This is what batting coach Bangar thinks about Rahul's form
India have seen opening batsman KL Rahul struggling with his form in Test cricket. Rahul has had a dismal 2018 campaign with the bat so far. Against West Indies in the current series, he got dismissed for 0 and 4. He struggled in South Africa and England. However, he played an impressive knock at the Oval that saved his place in the Test side.
There is not much technical fault, says Bangar
Batting coach Sanjay Bangar has put his weight behind Rahul saying that he isn't suffering from any sort of technical difficulties especially against the incoming ball. "Don't think there is too much of a technical fault. But maybe, when gets past that initial phase, he expects the ball to be pitched on stump line. We have been speaking a lot on that," Bangar said.
Bangar backs Rahul to overcome rough patch
Rahul has been bowled and dismissed leg-before on many occasions. Bangar feels that Rahul faced issues with the incoming ball in the ongoing series against West Indies. "It was probably a fourth stump ball he was looking to leave it. Yes, he has had issues with balls coming into him and he is really working hard."
Rahul's mode of dismissals suggest a pattern
Rahul played all Tests in England and got bowled on four occasions. He was adjudged LBW thrice in that series. Against West Indies, the woes continued. He was out LBW in Rajkot and then got bowled in Hyderabad. There's a pattern in the way he has suffered. We beg to differ from Bangar and think there is a technical glitch in his approach.
India keen to back someone like Rahul
Rahul is a part of all three formats and Bangar noted that it is crucial for the management to invest in such players. "He is somebody who is part of all other formats as well, so I think that from a team management point of view we will back players who are capable of winning matches," he said.
Rahul under immense pressure at the moment
India tour Australia next and Rahul will be under pressure in Adelaide for sure. If he fails yet again, then his place will hang in balance. With Prithvi Shaw showing his prowess in this first two Test innings, and an in-form Mayank waiting to grab a spot, the management might opt for the duo for majority part of the Aussies series.
