KL Rahul completes 300 sixes in T20 cricket: Decoding stats
KL Rahul has become the fifth Indian to complete 300 maximums in T20 cricket. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper reached the feat with his second maximum against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 28 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Rahul has been one of the most consistent run-getters in the 20-over format. Here we look at his stellar stats.
Fifth Indian to reach this feat
Rahul took 218 games to complete 300 maximums in the format. Among Indians, only Rohit Sharma (497), Virat Kohli (383), MS Dhoni (328), and Suresh Raina (325) have hammered more sixes in the format. Rahul has raced past 7,200 T20 runs with his average and strike rate being around 42 and 135, respectively (100s: 6, 50s: 62).
176 sixes in IPL
Playing his 123rd IPL match, he has raced past 4,270 runs with an average of 46-plus. He owns a strike rate of 134-plus and has accumulated 34 fifties and four centuries. The tally includes 176 maximums. With 2,548 runs at 56.62, Rahul is still the highest run-getter for Punjab Kings. Rahul accumulated over 590-plus runs in five of the last six seasons.
1,000 runs for LSG
Rahul recently became the first batter to complete 1,000 runs for LSG. He has now raced past 1,050 runs across 29 games for the franchise as he averages 44-plus (100s: 2, 50s: 7). The opener made 616 runs at 51.33 in his maiden season with the Super Giants in IPL 2022. He could only manage 273 runs at 34.25 last year.
99 sixes in T20I cricket
Besides IPL, Rahul has also been a prolific performer in T20Is though he has not played in the format since November 2022. He owns as many as 99 maximums in T20I cricket. Having played 72 games, he has so far scored 2,265 runs with his average and strike rate being 37.75 and 139.12 respectively. The batter has smashed 22 fifties alongside two centuries.
