KL Rahul's fielding technique compared to Mark Waugh
Indian cricket team's fielding coach, T Dilip, has drawn parallels between KL Rahul and former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh. This comparison was made following Rahul's impressive catch in the 1st Test Bangladesh in Chennai. Despite not scoring many runs, Rahul managed to take a crucial catch at second slip, dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim.
Dilip praises Rahul's fielding technique
Dilip praised Rahul's fielding technique, noting that it was reminiscent of Waugh's strategy during his cricketing career. "The best part of this catch was that KL was following with his hands," Dilip stated in a video shared by the BCCI. He further explained how maintaining a good position can help follow the ball even if it is slightly behind, a technique often employed by Waugh.
Rahul's fielding prowess extends beyond slip cordon
Dilip also highlighted Rahul's versatility as a fielder, stating that he is not only ideal in the slip cordon but also at mid-on. He commended Rahul for his composure and timing while going for catches that came right in front of him. "With his height, I think it was a terrific catch to look at," added Dilip.
150 international catches for Rahul
In the second innings of the same match, Rahul took another impressive catch to dismiss Rahim. This time, he had to dive forward from mid-on and pluck the ball inches off the ground. It was his 150th catch in international cricket, a testament to his consistent focus and effort on the field.
