IPL 2019: KKR beat SRH, here're the records broken
Kolkata Knight Riders clinched a last over thriller against Sunrisers Hyderabad to steal two points in their opening game of the Indian Premier League 2019 season. David Warner made a sound return to the IPL with a stroke-filled 85-run knock. His blitz helped SRH get to 181/3. In reply, Andre Russell (49*) produced a match-winning innings to take KKR home. Warner now has the most fifties in IPL history
David Warner amassed his 37th career IPL fifty. He now has the most number of fifties as he went past Gautam Gambhir (36). Warner hit nine fours and three sixes at a strike-rate of 160.37. He added 118 runs for the first wicket with Jonny Bairstow (39). This was the 13th highest century-plus stand in terms of runs for SRH in the IPL.
Warner surpasses Dhawan in terms of IPL runs
Warner now has 4,099 runs from 115 matches. He went past Shikhar Dhawan (4,058) in terms of most runs in the IPL. This knock was also the third highest score against KKR for Warner. It was also his eighth score of 80-plus for SRH.
SRH post their second highest total at the Eden Gardens
Piyush Chawla (1/23) now has 1,030 dot balls in IPL. He went past veteran spinner Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals (1,027). Nitish scored his sixth IPL career fifty and a second one for KKR. This was SRH's second highest team total against KKR in IPL and also their best score at the Eden Gardens. Their previous best in Kolkata was 174/7 last season.
How did the match pan out?
SRH got off to a strong start with Warner's bat doing the talking. KKR bowlers were inconsistent, as SRH scored 54 runs in the power-play. After Warner's dismissal in the 16th over, Vijay Shankar played a brisk cameo. In reply, KKR lost Chris Lynn (7) early on. Nitish and Robin Uthappa added crucial runs, and in the end, Russell scripted a miracle chase.
KKR dominate the show at Eden Gardens
This was the 16th meeting in the IPL between the two teams. KKR won their tenth match versus SRH. At the Eden Gardens, the tally now reads 6-2 in KKR's favor. Youngster Shubman Gill won it with a six. Check out the scorecard here.
