IPL 2024: KKR's Philip Salt races past 5,500 T20 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders opener Philip Salt has completed 5,500 runs in T20 cricket. The England international accomplished the milestone with his first run against Rajasthan Royals in Match 31 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Although Salt has been in stellar form this season, he could only manage a 13-ball 10 against RR. Avesh Khan got the better of him.
Brilliant numbers in the format
Playing his 234th T20 match, the wicketkeeper-batter has now raced to 5,509 runs at an average of 26-plus. His strike rate is over 153. The tally includes 34 fifties and a couple of tons. In 21 T20Is for England, Salt boasts 639 runs at a strike rate of 165.97. Last year, Salt became the second full-member team batter to smoke successive T20I tons.
Highest individual score for England in T20Is
Last year, Salt racked up 119 off 57 balls against West Indies in the Trinidad T20I. He hence recorded the highest individual T20I score by an England batter. He went past Alex Hales (116*) in this regard. Salt also became the first England player with multiple tons in the format. His T20I tally includes two tons and as many fifties.
Over 400 runs in IPL
Salt smashed a valiant 54 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on his KKR debut earlier in the season. His preceding outing saw him score an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls against Lucknow Super Giants. Playing his sixth match this season, the Englishman now owns 201 runs at 40.20 (SR: 151.12). Overall, Salt has now raced to 419 runs from 15 matches, averaging 32.23 (50s: 4).
