Boxers return 'gifted' cows to Haryana
Gifts are meant to make people happy and not something which turn out to be a burden. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened when the Haryana government thought it would be a great idea to gift cows to women boxers who won medals at the senior national boxing championship. These cows have now been returned by the boxers to the government. Here's more!
Awards given by govt returned
The boxers claim these cows have become a burden on them and their families, as they do not give milk and instead just kick them. The boxers also claim their families have sustained injures from the kicks of these animals and hence, they have made the decision to return these 'awards' back to the government.
'Cows harm us and don't give milk'
"My mother served the cow for good five days. Forget giving us milk, the animal hit her thrice. In fact, my mother suffered a damaged ligament after being kicked by the cow and we immediately returned the gift." Jyoti Gulia told the Times of India.
Haryana minister left red faced
Haryana's agriculture minister, Om Prakash Dhankar, gave the cows to these boxers claiming that the boxers would become "smart and beautiful" due to the abundant supply of milk. Even at that time, this idea had raised several eyebrows. This step, once again, shows that the government doesn't understand the needs of sportspersons. These boxers need better infrastructure and sports equipments and not cows.
