Khaled Mahmud resigns as BCB director amid political changes
Khaled Mahmud, the former captain of Bangladesh's cricket team, has stepped down from his role as Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This development was confirmed by a senior board official to Cricbuzz. Mahmud's resignation comes before the completion of his current term and is reportedly due to political shifts in Bangladesh that have impacted the board's operations. Here's more.
Mahmud's tenure and contributions to BCB
Mahmud, who triumphed over Gazi Ashraf Hossain in the 2013 election, has served three terms as BCB director. Before this role, he was the game development chairman for several years. Under his leadership, Bangladesh's Under-19 team went on to secure victory at the ICC Under-19 tournament in 2020. Additionally, Mahmud has held positions as interim head coach and team manager for the national cricket team on various occasions.
Other BCB directors follow Mahmud's lead
Mahmud's resignation is not an isolated event. Several other BCB directors have also chosen to step down from their positions. These include the likes of Jalal Yunus, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, and Naimur Rahman among others. This wave of resignations follows the departure of former president Nazmul Hassan, indicating significant changes within the Bangladesh Cricket Board's leadership structure.
Bangladesh beat Pakistan 2-0 in Tests
Recently, the Bangladesh cricket team stunned hosts Pakistan in the two-match Test series, winning 2-0. Bangladesh's clean sweep over Pakistan will be cherished for a long time. Bangladesh, who have hardly won any Test series abroad, outperformed the hosts. Notably, this was Bangladesh's third Test series win away from home. Their previous two series wins away came against West Indies in 2009 and Zimbabwe in 2021.
India to face Bangladesh in two-Test series at home
The Indian cricket team will be wary of the Bangladesh side visiting for a two-match Test series, starting September 19 onward. The two-match series will be played in Chennai and Kanpur, respectively. India are the favorites against their neighbours but one expects this series to be closely fought. India would be relying on their spin unit for joy. Ravichandran Ashwin's presence lifts this side. Bangladesh have plenty of star assets to thwart India. It's a promising series on offer.
