Karun Nair opens up about his stellar VHT campaign
What's the story
Right-handed batter Karun Nair is making all the right headlines with his phenomenal performance in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
His brilliant form has been instrumental in taking Vidarbha to the semi-finals of the prestigious domestic 50-over tournament.
In the tournament, Nair has scored 112, 44, 163, 111, 112 and 122 runs respectively.
The batter is mighty pleased with his stellar show.
Career reflection
Nair reflects on his career-best performance
Nair was also pleased with his current form, saying it's the best he has ever done in a single tournament.
He told Hindustan Times, "I've not got five 100s in the same tournament ever. So, in terms of results, you can say yes, I'm batting the best that I've ever had."
However, despite this, Nair says his approach to batting hasn't changed over the years.
Career resurgence
Nair's journey from bench to record-breaking performance
During the 2022-23 season, Nair spent most of his time on the bench as Karnataka chose to move on without him.
Looking back at that time, he called it an "emotional moment" and a "heartbreaking" experience. But he has used those challenges as motivation for his current success.
He said, "I think it was just probably in the heat of the moment kind of post."
Comeback journey
Nair credits Kuruvilla for his comeback
Nair thanked former Indian cricketer and current BCCI General Manager, Abey Kuruvilla, for helping him get in touch with Vidarbha. This proved to be a turning point in his career.
He said, "I think obviously after not being given the opportunity to play a full First-Class season... But I was left with no other choice because you know I wasn't being favored or being looked at."
