New Zealand vs India: Management should back players, says Kapil
Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev slammed the Indian management for perpetually chopping the playing XI in every match. Kapil was unhappy with the way the Virat Kohli-led side performed as India were handed a massive 10-wicket defeat by New Zealand in the first Test. He also reiterated that the insecurity of players over the place in the side will affect their performance. Here's more.
Kapil also bashed the Indian side for underperforming overseas
Since January 2018, India have lost two Tests in South Africa, four in England, one in Australia and New Zealand. However, they beat Australia 2-1 in the four-match Test series at their own turf during India's 2018 away season. 'Such big names in the batting order and you haven't conquered conditions. You have to focus more on planning and strategy," Kapil said.
Players are still insecure over place: Kapil Dev
"If we analyse this match, I don't understand how can one make so many changes. There is a new team in every match. No one's permanent, if there is no security over place, it will affect the form of the players," Kapil told ABP news.
Rahul should have played the Test series: Kapil Dev
Kapil believes the team management shouldn't focus on the formats, when it comes to batting style of a player. Rahul was snubbed from the Indian squad even after a successful outing in the limited overs leg against New Zealand. "Management believes in format-specific players. Rahul is in great form, he is sitting out, it does not make sense," the former all-rounder asserted.
India will look to make a turnaround in second Test
The dejected Team India would like to turn the tables in the upcoming Test at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, commencing on February 29. Hosts New Zealand currently lead the two-match Test series 1-0. In six Tests played at this venue, the Kiwis have won four and lost one, while one was drawn. Besides, India are yet to play their maiden Test here.
