Kapil Dev quits as BCCI CAC chief: Details here
Former Indian World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev has resigned as the chief of BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). His resignation comes following Shanta Rangaswamy's decision to step down from the three-member CAC committee. While Dev has not given the reason as to why he was stepping down, he did write an e-mail to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) on the same. Here's more.
Dev tenders resignation as CAC chief with immediate effect
"It was a pleasure to be part of the Ad-Hoc CAC to specifically select the Head Coach for the Men's Cricket Team. I hereby tender my resignation from the same with immediate effect," Dev wrote in his e-mail to Vinod Rai and Rahul Johri.
CAC members were served Conflict of Interest notice
Meanwhile, it is to be noted that Dev, along with Shanta and Anshuman Gaekwad, were served Conflict of Interest notice last month by BCCI's ethics officer DK Jain. The development came after MPCA life member Sanjiv Gupta filed a complaint against the members, stating that they are into multiple cricketing roles, besides being the CAC members.
What were the COI charges against Kapil and Shantha?
As per the complaint filed by Gupta, Dev also holds the role of a commentator, owning a floodlight company and being a member of the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA), while Shantha too had multiple roles, with CAC and the ICA.
Shantha expresses frustrations at BCCI's strict COI guidelines
After stepping down from the role, Shantha had expressed frustrations with BCCI's strict COI guidelines and stated that she wants to pursue other career interests as well. "There is no point in contesting the notice, going through a hearing. As it is I would have had to give up a post. I have decided to give up both posts," she told India Today.
Shantha believes it is for CoA to answer the COI
"Look we made the appointments to the best of our ability and without bias. If they say in future, we should not have been allowed to make the appointments, it's for the CoA to answer," added Shantha.
