Michael Vaughan claims India emulated England's style in Kanpur Test
Former England cricket captain, Michael Vaughan, has suggested that India emulated England's aggressive 'Bazball' approach during their second Test victory against Bangladesh. The match took place at Green Park in Kanpur. Despite a two-day washout due to rain, the Indian team adopted an all-out attacking strategy on the fourth day of the Test. This tactic resulted in a scoring rate of over eight runs per over during their first innings.
Vaughan praises India's performance, suggests emulation of England
Vaughan lauded India's performance during the match on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast. He stated, "I've to say, this is a remarkable Test match." He further noted that it was great to see India becoming 'Bazballers.' Vaughan suggested that India's aggressive batting strategy in scoring 285 runs in just 34.4 overs was reminiscent of England's style of play.
Gilchrist attributes India's strategy to Gambhir's 'Gamball'
Contrary to Vaughan's claim, former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist attributed India's aggressive approach to their head coach Gautam Gambhir. He referred to it as 'Gamball.' Vaughan humorously suggested that perhaps Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had consulted with England captain Ben Stokes before adopting this strategy. "Maybe Rohit rang Ben Stokes and said 'Can I copy you,'" he quipped on the podcast.
India secure series win despite rain delays
Despite significant rain delays, India managed to secure a seven-wicket victory in the match. This win marked the first time a Test in India has produced a result after a two-day washout. The triumph also ensured a 2-0 series win for India against Bangladesh, further solidifying their position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
India trounce Bangladesh in Kanpur Test
An unbeaten century from Mominul Haque helped Bangladesh manage 230 in their 1st innings. Majority of Day 1 followed by whole of second and third days of the contest got washed out. India went with an ultra-aggressive approach and declared at 285/9. The innings run rate was 8.22. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored fifties. The Tigers managed 146 in their third innings before India comfortably accomplished the 95-run target. R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah shone for India.
