Happy Birthday, Kane Williamson!
New Zealand cricket team skipper Kane Williamson celebrates his 27th birthday today. A talented right-handed batsman, he made his debut in 2010 and soon became the backbone of the team's batting line up. Let us find out if the Kiwi skipper will go past his mentor Martin Crowe to become the greatest New Zealand batsman ever.
Williamson's career in numbers
Since his debut in 2010, Williamson has scored 5116 runs from 61 tests and 4605 ODI runs from 114 matches. His highest scores are 242* and 145* in tests and ODIs respectively.
Best average in tests
With an average of above 51 in tests and close to 47 in ODIs Williamson has the best average among his peers in the Kiwi cricket team and one of the best in the world. He was also the fastest NZ batsman to score 5000 test runs, and is just behind Ross Taylor in the most number of runs among the current players.
Ability to bat on both home and away pitches
Williamson is one of the rare batsmen who has the ability to bat on home soil, as well as away pitches. In tests, he averages 46.41 in away matches, while 47.35 in ODIs. His both home and away test averages are higher than Virat Kohli.
An impeccable leader
Williamson took over the captaincy of all the formats just before the 2016 ICC World T20, and led the team to semi-final in the tournament. Under his captaincy New Zealand has won six away tests. He is also the youngest to score a century against all the test playing nations. He will definitely go down as one of the best cricketers of this generation.
