Kamindu Mendis becomes fastest Sri Lankan to 1,000 Test runs
Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis has become the fastest Sri Lankan batter to complete 1,000 Test runs. Mendis attained the milestone during his knock of an unbeaten 182 in SL's first innings score of 602/5d versus New Zealand in Galle on Friday. During his knock, Mendis formed two century-plus stands and a fifty-plus stand to help his side get to a mammoth total.
An average of 91.27 with the bat
Mendis remained unbeaten on 182 from 250 balls. He slammed 16 fours and four sixes. He shared a telling 200*-run stand for the sixth wicket alongside Kusal Mendis, who was unscathed on 106. Mendis has now surpassed 1,000 runs in the longest format for Sri Lanka. He owns 1,004 runs at an average of 91.27. He hammered his fifth century (50s: 4).
Don Bradman's record equalled by Kamindu Mendis
As per ESPNcricinfo, Mendis took 13 innings to reach the landmark of 1,000 runs. He is the fastest Sri Lankan batter to the milestone, breaking Roy Dias' record (23 innings). England's Herbert Sutcliffe and West Indies' Everton Weekes (12 innings each) hold the record. Mendis equalled Sir Don Bradman, who also took 13 innings for the milestone of 1,000 runs.
Fastest Asian batter to five Test hundreds
Mendis, who scored 114 and 13 in the first clash versus NZ, became the fastest Asian batter to five Test hundreds. He broke the record held by Pakistan's Fawad Alam (22 innings). Mendis is now the joint-fourth fastest batter in the all-time list to five Test centuries. Mendis went level with Don Bradman and George Headley by scoring his fifth Test hundred (13 innings).
