Buffon to leave Juventus after a 17-year stint
Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is finally going to bid farewell to Juventus after a 17-year stint. He is all set to play his last game for the Italian giants when they face Verona on Saturday in Serie A. One of the best ever goalkeepers football has ever seen, Buffon won a host of trophies with Juventus since joining the club from Parma in 2001.
Buffon had enormous success with Juve
Buffon made a whopping 655 appearances for Juventus and helped them to seal seven successive Serie A honors. With the double this term as well, he was influential in leading the side to fourth successive Italian Cup win. The veteran goalkeeper won a total of 19 trophies with the club and marked his name in the history books.
Stuck with the team during dark days
In 2004-05, Juventus saw their league title being stripped off, before being relegated next season due to allegations of involvement in match-fixing. Buffon stayed with the club and helped them win the promotion fight after they were the champions of Serie B.
Interesting proposals await the legend
Buffon stated that until a few days ago he was determined to stop playing, but some interesting proposals await him. Will he continue plying his trade somewhere else? There could be a possibility of a stint in the USA. He also stated that with Juventus winning the title, it was the best way to end a beautiful adventure. Saturday will see Juventus honoring Buffon.
Buffon trusts what's in store for Juve
Buffon stated that second choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is an excellent player. The former Arsenal man will take charge next season. Juve's long-term serving player Giorgio Chiellini is going to get the leadership band and Buffon praised the Italian defender immensely. One wish he will definitely have is to see the club win the Champions League, which he could not achieve.
