We know he'll come good, says Langer on Finch
Australian limited-overs cricket team skipper Aaron Finch may be struggling with the bat since quite sometime, but he has found some much needed support from head coach Justin Langer. Ahead of the first ODI between India and Australia, Langer has gone on to praise the senior cricketer and has backed him to do well. Here's more on the same.
Smith has battled poor form since a while now
Finch has been battling poor form in international cricket since a while now. Since his Test cricket debut in October 2018, Finch has mustered scores of 5, 41, 11, 6, 6, and 14 in his last five ODI matches. In the recently concluded T20I series, he managed 0 and 8. It's a big test for Finch to sort out his flaws quickly.
Langer likens Finch as the most destructive batsman
"We just got to keep giving him plenty of care and support. We know he'll come good. There's no more destructive player in the world - we talk about 'Maxi' (Glenn Maxwell), Marcus Stoinis, a number of our players who can be so destructive - but when he's going, he is as destructive as a player as there is in white-ball cricket," Langer said.
T20I series win might propel Finch to come good
Finch hasn't scored a single half-century for Australia in limited-overs cricket in his last 20 innings. He has been an able leader though for the side in a challenging period. The recent T20I series win against India may just propel Finch to come out strong and get going. Langer feels that this win could be a tremendous boost to Finch's captaincy.
Finch is really consistent as a leader: Langer
"Another important part about leadership is that he's really consistent. We haven't see any real change in his personality or his attitude around the group, so that's a real credit to him. That's why he is the captain of the team," said Langer.
Finch will need to make opportunities count: Our take
With the ICC World Cup 2019 a few months away, the series against India is massive for the Aussies to identify many aspects about the side. It is indeed a key moment in terms of solid preparations. Australia will face Pakistan next in ODI cricket. So Finch will get ample opportunities to get back to form ahead of the coveted World Cup.
