What next for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United?
The association between Manchester United and manager Jose Mourinho could soon come to an end, way before his contract tenure ends. The manager is in a position of bother after a difficult start to the 2018-19 season where he finds his side lying tenth in the league table. So what next for him and the club? Here we decode the same.
Contrary reports in media surrounding Jose
Speculations took a big turn when the Mirror suggested that Mourinho would be sacked over the weekend, irrespective of the result against Newcastle United. The report went viral across media outlets and there were mixed reactions to the same. But now according to the BBC, it has been claimed that Jose retains the trust and he is not going anywhere.
What is the situation right now?
The reality is that United cannot afford to be childish in making decisions as such and will have to give time to Jose for turning things around. He needs the breathing space. The manager and the players have to work things out and one win can spark a turnaround. It is unlikely that United will pull the trigger tonight.
Did officials leak Jose's exit?
The Mirror had reported that the officials at the club leaked information about the sacking of Jose. Since it has already happened twice before with former managers David Moyes and LVG, the news garnered a lot of attention. But it hasn't been confirmed as of now. This is poor management from United's side and this needs to stop.
When could Jose get the sack?
If results don't improve, we might witness a similar situation that happened with Jose at Chelsea in 2015. He was sacked in December. In this case, United might opt for a similar approach. If results do turn, then we expect Jose to be here till this season at least. United have to be careful with their decision making. Things are nervy at the moment.
What are the options for United?
United could be tempted to rope in Zinedine Zidane as their next manager if things go awry with Jose. But it remains to be seen whether Zidane accepts this position. Another option is Antonio Conte. He was successful in his first season at Chelsea. These two are the best bets for the Manchester based club.
A look at Jose's stint with United
United are in a transition phase and this could last a while. When Jose came in, he voiced the same. He has guided United to three trophies. Last season, they finished second in the league. But now when the club needs a stronghold, the form has disappeared. Issues on and off the field have hit Jose badly. He has to rectify the same.
