Buttler ready for England's captaincy in Morgan's absence
England have given a solid account of themselves so far in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. The Three Lions have won three games out of four. Further, the results have been achieved on the basis of all-round performance. However, their skipper Eoin Morgan is suffering from back spasm and vice-captain Jos Buttler is ready to step up. Here is more.
Morgan left the field against West Indies
Morgan left the field due to back spasm in England's fourth match of their campaign against the Windies. It remains to be seen whether Morgan gets fit for the upcoming clash against Afghanistan on Tuesday. Morgan will undergo a test and then a call will be taken ahead of the this battle. Buttler is keen to lead the side well if the need arises.
We've got some quite similar views: Buttler on Morgan
England are set to continue with the same approach even if Morgan misses out. "We have played under Eoin for a long time. I think he's a fantastic captain. He's someone I've tried to learn from, being vice-captain. I've talked to him a lot about the game. We've got some quite similar views so I think it would be very similar," said Buttler.
Buttler was brilliant against West Indies as skipper
Buttler was terrific as a skipper against West Indies after Morgan's departure. He got the DRS review spot on against Nicholas Pooran and handled his bowlers well. The field placements were terrific and he looked in sync on the field.
Buttler ready to thrive in dual role
Buttler is ready to shine in a dual role as the keeper and captain. "If it comes to it and I have to captain it's obviously a huge honor. From behind the stumps you have a fantastic view of what's going on but it's just down to yourself to manage those two jobs and separate them," he said.
Besides Morgan, opener Jason Roy is also injured
Besides Morgan's injury, England also will be missing explosive opening batsman Jason Roy. The prolific cricketer suffered a hamstring injury while fielding against Windies. He didn't come out to bat after that. Roy has been terrific so far and slammed a fabulous 153 against Bangladesh.
England have solidity in the ranks despite injury issues
England have a terrific bunch of players and there is serious depth in the squad. The versatility of players make them a dangerous outfit. Against Windies, Root came out as an opener and struck a century. They also promoted all-rounder Chris Woakes, who shined with the bat. James Vince may replace Roy and Moeen could come in for Morgan to strengthen the middle order.
