Jofra Archer reverses decision, to participate in IPL 2025 auction
Jofra Archer, the star England fast bowler, has changed his mind about pulling out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction. The 29-year-old cricketer has now made himself available for selection in the two-day event, which will be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. The change of heart comes after Archer's career was marred by injuries in recent years.
Archer's initial withdrawal and IPL rule implications
Archer had earlier opted to skip the auction to concentrate on his preparations for the upcoming Ashes series. As per new IPL regulations, this would have also kept him out of next year's IPL auction. However, after being given a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Archer has opted to re-enter the auction pool, as per reports.
Archer's IPL journey and injury struggles
Archer was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 8 crore in the 2022 mega auction. However, his debut season was marred by an absence due to injury. The following year, he played only four matches before an elbow injury forced him to return home prematurely. Despite these setbacks, Archer remains a sought-after player in the league.
Archer joins 574 cricketers in IPL 2025 mega auction
With Archer's addition, the number of players listed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction has gone up to 575. The list features 366 Indian and 209 overseas players, including three from associate nations. More than 35 English cricketers now feature in this auction pool. 204 slots are up for grabs with Rs. 2 crore being the highest reserve price.
