Tsonga out of French Open due to an injury
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has ruled himself out of the French Open after failing to recover in time post a knee injury. He made it clear on Twitter that he won't be available for the second Grand Slam of the year. The Frenchman, who has made into the semi-final of the tournament on two previous occasions, failed his fitness test.

"Despite all our best efforts to be fit in time I am afraid to say unhappily I'm ruled out of Roland Garros. I worked really hard to try and be fit in time, but it wasn't enough" Tsonga took to Twitter to confirm the news.

No Frenchman has won the French Open since Yannick Noah in 1983 and the 2013 and 2015 French Open semi-finalist was the country's best hope. Defending Champion Rafael Nadal is the red-hot favourite to win again in 2018 with Roger Federer ruling himself out of the clay season. Thiem, Djokovic and Zverev are the other contenders.

Serena is expected to make a comeback in a bid to win her 24th Grand Slam title with Halep is expected to give Serena a tough fight. The purse money has been increased this season to €39 million with the singles champion pocketing a massive €2.2 million. The French Open will get underway from May 27 and will go on till June 10.
