Jemimah Rodrigues views WCPL stint as preparation for T20 WC
Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues is gearing up for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup in UAE this October. She is currently playing in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) for Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). Rodrigues views her participation in these matches as crucial practice ahead of the T20 World Cup. "These are the matches that I'm actually going to get before going and playing [T20 World Cup]," she said during a media interaction organized by FanCode.
Rodrigues's journey and love for franchise cricket
Rodrigues, who made her international debut in 2018, faced a career setback in 2021. However, she regained her form during her stint with Northern Superchargers in the Hundred. She scored an unbeaten 92 off just 43 balls in her first game there. This knock came after an 18-month dry spell without an international half-century. "I'm really looking forward to a few things that I'm working on to try and implement," she said.
Rodrigues's approach to adapting and learning
Rodrigues is known for her adaptability, having moved out of her comfort zone to bat at No. 5 for India under head coach Amol Muzumdar's guidance. However, in the WCPL, she is expected to bat at No. 3. When asked about the challenges of batting on slower Caribbean surfaces, Rodrigues said that every batter has their own formula but for her it's very important to assess the conditions quickly and know which shots work for her on a slower track.
T20 World Cup 2024 shifted from Bangladesh to UAE
The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced a change in venue for the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, due to political unrest in Bangladesh. The tournament, initially scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, will now be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Despite this change, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will continue to play a significant role as host of the event.
