Jay Shah's term as ACC President extended by a year
The tenure of Jay Shah as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been extended by a year. Notably, the members of the ACC unanimously decided the same in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday. Shah overtook Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan last year. He was the youngest administrator to be appointed as ACC president (at 32).

"We remain committed towards ensuring the all-round development of cricket in the region, especially carrying forward the pioneering work in women's cricket and the multiple grassroot tournaments the ACC conducts in the region around the year," Shah said. "The pandemic hopefully is behind us and I am keen that we adapt, innovate and help the ACC grow from strength to strength from hereon."
Youngest President of the ACC
In January 2021, Shah became the youngest President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), having replaced BCB President Nazmul Hassan. Hassan held the post for three years (2018-2021). Pakistan's Ehsan Mani was the ACC President before Hassan (2016-2018). Meanwhile, Shah was the first Indian to take the post since N Srinivasan, who was in charge from 2012 to 2014.
What about the Asia Cup?
In the recently-concluded AGM, it was also decided that the prestigious Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka from August 27 to September 11 in 2022. The Qualifiers for the tournament will begin on August 20. The tournament involving the marquee Asian teams will take place in the T20 format. India won the last Asia Cup edition, played in the UAE in 2018.
SL were supposed to host the Asia Cup in 2020
Sri Lanka were supposed to host the Asia Cup in 2020. However, the tournament got postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SL managed to retain their rights for the 2022 edition. Meanwhile, Pakistan are in line to host the 2023 Asia Cup.
