A look at Jasprit Bumrah's impactful Test spells at home
India will face Bangladesh in the 1st Test at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, starting September 19. This will be India's first international after a month-long hiatus, with Rohit Sharma leading the squad. India will likely field three spinners as the Chennai track assists spin. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead India's pace attack. Here are his impactful Test spells at home.
6/45 vs England, Visakhapatnam, 2024
Bumrah's career-best innings figures in home Tests came earlier this year, against England in Vizag. The right-arm pacer gave a pace-bowling exhibition on Day 2. His in-swinging yorker that knocked over Ollie Pope took the cricket fraternity by storm. Bumrah's 6/45 became the best bowling figures for an Indian pacer in a home Test since 2000. India later won the match after defending 398.
5/24 vs Sri Lanka, Mohali, 2022
Bumrah starred in India's historic Day/Night Test win against Sri Lanka in 2022 in Mohali. A stunning five-wicket haul helped India bowl out the Lankans for 109 in the first innings. It was his maiden Test fifer at home. Bumrah became the fourth Indian bowler to record a five-wicket haul in Day/Night Tests. India eventually won by 238 runs while defending 446.
4/41 vs England, Hyderabad, 2024
India lost the 1st Test against England in Hyderabad earlier this year. Ollie Pope's incredible and historic 196 powered the visitors to a 28-run win. Although India lost a rare home Test, Bumrah's spell from the second innings was a talking point. While every other Indian bowler conceded over three runs per over, Bumrah took four wickets for 41 runs in 16.1 overs.
