We don't play the blame game: Jasprit Bumrah

    What's the story

The Indian bowlers put on a resounding display on Day 2 of the ongoing Christchurch Test, but they were not complimented well by the batsmen.

Umesh Yadav provided India with the early breakthrough in the form of Tom Blundell.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami shared seven wickets between them, while Ravindra Jadeja scalped two.

However, Bumrah believes it is unfair to blame the batsmen.

    Quote

Blame game isn't a part of our team culture: Bumrah

"See we don't play the blame game. In our team culture, we don't look at blaming anyone. Some days if as a bowling unit we don't pick up wickets, then that doesn't give the batsmen liberty to take our case, isn't it?" Bumrah said.

    Day 2

How did Day 2 pan out?

Although the New Zealand openers looked in sublime touch in the first innings, Umesh Yadav drew the first blood on Day 2.

The hosts were reduced to 177/8 before Kyle Jamieson's 63-ball 49 took them past 200.

Neil Wagner too added 21 off 41 deliveries, propelling New Zealand to 235.

The Kiwis are in commanding position as India ended the day at 90/6.

    Belief

Vihari and Pant are still on crease at stumps

Bumrah believes that the Indian middle order will show character and extend India's lead on Day 3.

"We, as a team want to do well but the situation is what it is. We have two batsmen left and we would look to push tomorrow as well," he said.

He added, "We can try and work hard and score as many as we can."

    Form

I don't look at personal performances: Bumrah

Bumrah's wickets column has certainly dried up across formats post his return from injury.

He has taken 10 wickets from 11 innings at 44.70 in the New Zealand tour.

However, the 26-year-old is least bothered about personal performances.

"I don't look at personal performances. I focus on the process. Some days, I will get wickets and some days, someone else will," he said.
