Will Bumrah get fit in time for the second Test?
India's pace spearhead Bumrah has already been ruled out of the ODI series due to a thumb injury. Now, he is racing against time to be fit for the second Test against England. Bumrah will take at least 5 to 6 weeks to recover from his surgery. The second Test is scheduled to begin on August 9 at the Lord's.
Bumrah is recovering under BCCI's supervision
"Bumrah underwent a surgery on Wednesday, July 4 in Leeds before returning to India. The surgery was successful and he will commence rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI medical team." BCCI said in a statement.
Bumrah was impressive in his debut series in South Africa
Jasprit Bumrah has become Kohli's go-to-bowler in ODIs and T20Is. He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2018. The pacer was one of India's key performers and even helped India beat the hosts by 63 runs in the third and final Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. He finished with 14 wickets in 3 Tests at a strike rate of 48.00.
Shardul Thakur will replace Bumrah in the ODI series
Bumrah injured his finger in the first T20I against Ireland in Dublin while attempting to take a catch in 20th over of Ireland's innings. Deepak Chahar was named Bumrah's replacement for the ongoing T20I series while Shardul Thakur will take his spot in the ODI squad. The Test series against England is scheduled to start on August 1 at Edgbaston.
