Jasprit Bumrah to miss T20I series against Bangladesh?
Jasprit Bumrah, India's leading fast bowler, is set for another hiatus from cricket following the impending Test series against Bangladesh at home. According to PTI reports, he will not be included in the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. This decision comes as part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) strategy to manage Bumrah's workload ahead of a busy schedule that includes high-profile tournaments like the Border-Gavaskar series and next year's Champions Trophy.
Bumrah's commendable performance in T20 World Cup 2024
Bumrah, who was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup 2024, has not represented India ever since. He is set to return for two-Test series against Bangladesh at home, starting September 19. His preparations for this series are already underway. With no significant T20I event scheduled until 2026, team management is shifting its focus from the shortest format of cricket to other objectives.
Shubman Gill likely to be rested
In addition to Bumrah, Shubman Gill is also expected to be given a break from the upcoming series. This decision comes after Gill's continuous participation in cricket for an extended period. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj could be excluded from the T20I squad due to his recent underperformance. Siraj took a solitary wicket in the T20 World Cup and had a mediocre IPL 2024 season by his standards.
Opportunities for other pacers
The potential absence of Bumrah could be an ideal opportunity for seamers like Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan to feature in the Bangladesh series. Arshdeep is expected to lead Team India's pace attack.
