Jaker Ali replaces injured Shoriful Islam for India Tests
Bangladesh have made a solitary change to their squad for their impending Test series in India, starting September 19. The uncapped batter, Jaker Ali, is set to replace fast bowler Shoriful Islam. Notably, Islam sustained a groin injury during the 1st Test against Pakistan, rendering him unable to participate in the second match. The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed this news stating that "Left-arm paceman Shoriful Islam is still recovering from a groin injury and was unavailable for the series."
Bangladesh to miss Islam; Ali's cricket career
In Islam's absence, Bangladesh's pace attack will be led by Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Khaled Ahmed. The new addition to the squad, Jaker Ali, is yet to make his debut in Tests and ODIs. He played 17 T20Is for Bangladesh since making debut at the 2023 Asian Games. With an average of 41.47 from 49 first-class games and four centuries under his belt, Ali brings a promising record to the team.
World Test Championship standings and future matches
Currently, India hold the top position in the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle, while Bangladesh are fourth on the points table. As per the latest ICC Test Rankings, India are seven places ahead of Bangladesh. After the Bangladesh series, Rohit Sharma's team will host three Tests against New Zealand before taking part in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.
