Jake Fraser-McGurk smashes fastest IPL fifty for DC: Key stats
Delhi Capitals lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 35 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The hosts lost by 67 runs while attempting to chase a mammoth 267, though Jake Fraser-McGurk's incredible 18-ball 65 kept their hopes alive. He smashed the fastest half-century for DC in the IPL. Overall, this was the IPL's joint third-fastest fifty.
A blistering knock from Fraser-McGurk
DC lost openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner with just 25 runs on the board in 1.6 overs. However, Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel flew the Capitals past 100 in the seventh over. Fraser-McGurk, who departed soon after, smashed 65 off 18 balls, a knock laced with 5 fours and 7 sixes. The Aussie batter reached his fifty off just 15 balls.
Fraser-McGurk enters record books
Fraser-McGurk now has the fastest half-century for DC in the IPL. He broke the record of South Africa's Chris Morris, who slammed a 17-ball fifty against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016 on the same ground. Overall, Fraser-McGurk notched up the joint third-fastest half-century in the IPL with Yusuf Pathan (in 2014). The former is only behind Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Pat Cummins.
A brilliant start!
Australian cricketer Fraser-McGurk scored a valiant half-century on his IPL debut against the Lucknow Super Giants in Match 26. He smacked 55 from 35 balls in a chase of 168. DC won the match with six wickets to spare. The 22-year-old Aussie batter has already accumulated two half-centuries in his first three IPL innings. He has a strike rate of 222.22 in this regard.
SRH beat DC by 67 runs
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma added 131 runs after DC elected to field. Kuldeep Yadav took quick wickets before Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz took SRH past 200. They compiled 266/7, with Kuldeep taking a four-fer. DC, despite being down to 25/2, had a flying start. Fraser-McGurk and Porel helped DC cross 100 in the seventh over. SRH's concerted bowling effort bowled DC out.
