Records that define Jake Fraser-McGurk's stature in T20 cricket
The talented Jake Fraser-McGurk found no spot in Australia's squad for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, starting June 1. Fraser-McGurk, who has been making waves in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), was touted to bolster Australia's top order. However, he couldn't make it despite striking at an astronomical 233.33 for Delhi Capitals. Here are the records that define his stature in T20s.
Two 15-ball fifties in IPL
Fraser-McGurk, who entered the DC roster as a replacement player, scored a valiant half-century on his IPL debut, against Lucknow Super Giants. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he smacked the fastest-ever IPL half-century for DC (15 balls). He did the same in his 27-ball 84 against Mumbai Indians. As per ESPNcricinfo, Fraser-McGurk became the first-ever player to record two 15-ball half-centuries in IPL history.
Second-most runs in first over of an innings for DC
Fraser-McGurk hammered a 27-ball 84 against MI, a knock laced with 11 fours and 6 sixes. He straightaway went after Luke Wood in the match's first over, which produced 19 runs. Fraser-McGurk greeted Wood with 3 fours and a six in that over. The former now has the second-most runs in the first over of an IPL innings for DC.
A first against Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the IPL's best bowler followed Wood to bowl the second over of the DC-MI match. Fraser-McGurk welcomed Bumrah too with a maximum. As per ESPNcricinfo, this was only the second instance of Bumrah getting hit for a six off his first ball in an IPL game. The Australian dasher struck 15 runs off just four balls against Bumrah.
Third player with this T20 feat
In that match, Fraser-McGurk became only the third player to reach their half-century in 15 or fewer balls twice in T20 cricket, as per Cricbuzz. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are the only others with this feat.
Most runs in Powerplay by a right-hander
As mentioned, Fraser-McGurk went on to slam 84 off 27 balls against MI. He smashed 78 of these runs in the Powerplay, now the most by a right-handed batter in this phase (IPL). Overall, he is behind Suresh Raina (87) and Travis Head (84).
