England vs Australia: Jake Ball included in the squad
Jake Ball has been recalled into England's ODI squad for the series against Australia as cover for all-rounder Chris Woakes. Woakes suffered a quad strain during the second Test against Pakistan at Leeds. Woakes will not recover in time and is expected to miss the first half of the series. Jake Ball has played 17 ODIs for England till now.
Ball has been exceptional in the County Championship
Jake Ball was a part of the ODI series against Australia earlier this year. However, he played only in the last ODI of that series which England won by 12 runs. This win helped England to seal the series 4-1. Notably, Jake Ball is the leading wicket-taker in the County Championship this season, with 27 wickets at an average of 18.33.
Woakes joins Ben Stokes on the sidelines
Injury of Chris Woakes comes as a major blow to the Three Lions. Woakes has become the second English all-rounder, who will sit on the sidelines. Ben Stokes will also miss the first half of the five-match ODI series against Australia after suffering a hamstring tear. The ODI series will commence at the Oval next Wednesday, June 13.
