PSG and Chelsea linked with Manchester United's Jadon Sancho: Details
Manchester United's star player, Jadon Sancho, is reportedly seeking a transfer away from the club. This news comes just hours before the launch of the new Premier League season. According to Spanish football outlet Fichajes, Sancho believes his future does not lie with the Red Devils and is actively working toward an early departure. His preferred destination is Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). As per reports in Germany, Chelsea are looking at Sancho and could push for a transfer. Here's more.
Sancho's strained relationship with Manchester United
Sancho's future at Manchester United remains uncertain as the club prepares for its match against Fulham on August 16. His tenure with the Premier League side has been marked by controversy, including a public dispute with coach Erik ten Hag over his exclusion from the main team. Despite being drafted into the team following an impressive campaign with Borussia Dortmund, Sancho is believed to not be among ten Hag's favored forwards for the upcoming season.
Sancho's potential move to PSG
Fichajes reports that Sancho is "clear about his desire" to transfer to PSG, who have been interested in the Manchester United star since June, impressed by his Champions League performance with Dortmund. They view Sancho as an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe in Paris. However, before finalizing Sancho's transfer, PSG need to raise additional funds and free up some salary caps. Earlier, Dortmund and Juventus were interested in the player but his valuation saw them move away.
PSG's financial strategy for Sancho's transfer
To secure funds for Sancho's transfer, PSG plans to offload several players including Manuel Ugarte, Danilo, and Mukiele. This strategy is expected to provide the necessary liquidity for completing Sancho's signing. With just 15 days remaining before the transfer market closes, both parties are hopeful of reaching an agreement over the transfer. Meanwhile, Manchester United has successfully signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Chelsea are exploring a move for Sancho
Premier League club Chelsea are said to be prepared to offer not just a transfer fee, but also two academy players as part of a swap deal. Chelsea are also prepared to discuss a loan deal for Sancho with an obligation to buy, while covering his entire salary. In addition to Sancho, Chelsea are exploring a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Napoli's Victor Osimhen. Chelsea are also linked with Joao Felix as Conor Gallagher's departure got stalled.
Sancho has to fend off competition at Man United
Sancho, who plays primarily as a winger, has to fend off competition for a starting berth. Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo are favorites to start for the Red Devils with Marcus Rashford and Antony providing cover. Sancho has to battle it out with these four players for a position in the wings. However, ten Hag could also use him centrally as a false nine or number 10 until Rasmus Hojlund returns from injury and Joshua Zirkzee attains the necessary fitness.
Sancho backed by ten Hag after Community Shield penalty miss
Sancho came on as a substitute in the FA Community Shield defeat against Manchester City. Man United were leading 1-0 before City equalized moments later at the death. In the penalty shootout, Sancho and Jonny Evans missed for United, who lost 6-7. "I had no doubts about him," ten Hag said after the match. "He's a very good penalty taker and today he missed, but that's part of the game. I am sure in the future he will take penalties."
