ISSF World Cup: Ankur Mittal bags gold medal
Ankur Mittal continued his good form and bagged gold medal in the men's double trap event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico. He defeated rival James Willett of Australia to win the first gold medal of his career. With a tally of 75 points, Ankur also equalled the world record set by Willett last month.
ISSF World Cup, Acapulco
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Stage 2 kicked-off in Acapulco, Mexico on 17 March 2017. It is the second ISSF competition of the season. The world cup will feature more than 200 athletes taking part in five shotgun events like the trap, double trap and skeet for men, while women will participate in the trap and skeet events.
India's participation in the World Cup
Silver medalist at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi last month, Ankur Mittal will lead India's charge in the men's double trap event. He will be accompanied by Zoravar Singh Sandhu, Kynan Chenai and Birendeep Sodhi. In the men's and women's skeet event, India will see participation from Rashmee Rathore, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, Man Singh and Amrinder Cheema.
India's poor start in men's double trap event
Zoravar Singh Sandhu failed to qualify for the finals of men's double trap event and ended up finishing eighth. Kynan Chenai and Birendeep Sodhi too did not perform well and finished 11th and 53rd respectively.
