Indian Super League 6 finale: Preview, Dream11 and more
The sixth edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) sees two-time winners ATK and Chennaiyin face each other in a titanic finale clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Goa on Saturday. Both sides are chasing for a record third title in the competition. One expects a stern battle on offer. Here is the complete match preview.
ATK-Chennaiyin face each other in a titanic finale clash
Borth teams were superb in the play-offs with Chennaiyin FC getting the better of FC Goa in a thrilling two-legged tie that finished 6-5. Meanwhile, ATK produced a second leg turnaround to get the better of Bengaluru FC 3-2 on aggregate. Both teams will meet each other for the first time in the final. Notably, both ATK and Chennaiyin registered finale wins.
Chennaiyin out to do further miracles under manager Own Coyle
Chennaiyin produced a miracle to reach this stage after manager Owen Coyle took charge of them at the start of December 2019. In the six matches before his arrival, the club had won only one match and scored just four goals. Nerijus Valskis has 14 goals to his name and is vying to become the top goal-scorer. Rafael Crivellaro is the creative engine.
Can ATK stop Chennaiyin's run?
ATK will be relying on Roy Krishna and David Williams' contributions in attack. Krishna has amassed 15 goals this season and is in the race for the Golden Boot. Williams, who scored a brace against Bengaluru in the play-off, is highly crucial. Edu Garcia and Javier Hernandez will need to handle the mid-field well. Wing-back Prabir Das will aim to supply solid deliveries.
What did the managers say ahead of the mega finale?
"I have nothing but the utmost respect for ATK, for the quality of players they have. We will stick to our style because we believe that we can win games with it," said Coyle. "We have to enjoy the final and try to win it. But we have to respect the opponent," said ATK coach Antonio Habas.
