India have been knocked out of a medal contention spot from the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia after they faced a shock defeat in the hands of Ireland in Ipoh on Friday. Ireland stage remarkable comeback to beat India
Ireland came back twice from a goal down to secure a remarkable victory over the 2017 bronze medallists. India took an early lead but their defensive frailties came back to haunt them. Ramandeep Singh and Amit Rohidas were on the score-sheet for India, while Shane O'Donoghue, Sean Murray and Lee Cole found the back of the net for Ireland.
Ireland record first victory over India
This was India's first ever defeat to Ireland and their third loss in the tournament. Sardar Singh and his men put up a poor show and ended fifth in the standings. Six teams were competing at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and India will now face Ireland yet again in the 5-6 classification playoff on Saturday.
